Do you have a good control on yourself so that you don’t spend more money than you have planned for your Christmas? I believe I have good control on my spending habits but many a times I do spend more due to snap shopping decisions. If you have the same problem, I am sure some of these habits can help you as I am currently practicing and it is helping me.
Here are some Money Saving Tips for a better Christmas:
Shop before Christmas
In order to kick-start the Christmas shopping, some retailers provide early shopping incentives and you should keep an eye on these offers as you can save a lot of money by shopping early. Also you get good choices if you shop early!
Shop after Christmas
I know this does not sound good but if you are planning to buy something for yourself especially a big ticket item, you may like to buy after Christmas or on the boxing day. Since you are buying for yourself, it would not hurt that you didn’t buy before Christmas.
Shop for Christmas throughout the Year
This is a favorite one for me as I like to buy my items when there are some real deals. Since there is no pressure on me, I do wait for the good deals. The key step for this type of shopping is that you need to know what you are planning to buy for the Christmas shopping in advance. This means plan for the Christmas shopping early and prepare a list to keep yourself focused.
Check out the Discount Stores
We all know that we can buy items cheaper if we buy non-branded items or go for lesser known brands. You can plenty of such choices if you don’t focus on the well known brands. Don’t forget to compare the items between the Discount store and the departmental stores!
Check out for Online Stores for more savings
You can shop now a days virtually anything online. Since the sellers don’t have to set up like big box stores, they pass discounts to online shoppers. Do you research by using search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc to find out the best deals!
Watch out for Discount Coupons
You can go for further discounts in some cases besides the normal discounts offered if you have the discount coupons. There are some online sites too available which offers discount coupons for the well known branded items.
Save Money by Using Credit Cards
Many people say that you should not use credit cards if you don’t control your spending habits. I believe this problem can be resolved if you use the fixed amount credit cards or loaded credit cards with a limit where you can’t spend more because of the limits.

Save Money by shopping at Thrift or Consignment Stores
I know what you are thinking? You must be saying that I don’t want to go to thrift or consignment store for the Christmas shopping. But didn’t I say earlier that you can shop for the whole year rather than waiting for the Christmas month shopping?
Are you looking for the Christmas Gift ideas? Here are few ideas for the Christmas gifts which you can use to exchange your presents with your neighbors, acquaintances or friends or paper boy or baby sitters:
- Look for the Christmas ornaments
- Books can be great gifts for those who love reading books!
- Cook books can be very handy for those who love cooking!
- Calendars can be fun if you customize the calendars and then print it. There are a number of such websites available.
- Food or Fruit baskets can be used for helping out service providers like paper boy or baby sitters.
- Computer games or movie DVD or music CDs
- Coloring books, crayons, Kid’s diaries or journals etc. for children
- Magazine subscriptions if you know what your friends are looking for.
