Savvy Ideas to Save Money at Home

Use Some of the Following Ideas to Save Money Immediately!
Recently I attended a function on the green earth day and I started thinking about how can we all save money living the daily life. I came up with the following ideas which are not new but many of us never act on it. So I am sharing some ideas here categorized under different categories.
Living or Media or TV Room
- Alwasy use a power bar to hook up all the electronic items and switch it off while not in use. You can start saving energy by just following this practice.
- Change the bulbs from incandescent to CFLs or LEDs.
- If not already installed a programmable thermostat, then you should do this at the earliest as energy saved by this device will pay for it’s cost within a year.
Kitchen
- Recycle everything and take pride in being eco-friendly.
- Collect the glass bottles, beer bottles and other such bottles and you can get money by recycling to your nearest bottle depot.
- Use your fridge wisely. If you have the hot items, don’t put them in the fridge unless it is at the room temperature. Don’t keep the door open for too long. If you can buy a fridge with separate doors.
- Don’t run the dishwasher unless it is full. You can start saving money by just following this tip.
Bathroom
- Install a low-flow shower head.
- Check for leaks in toilets, sinks and tubs. Fix the lead as it appears to start saving water.
- Install tap aerators as it restricts water flow without sacrificing water pressure.
- Check all of your cosmetics and see if you really need to buy another lipstick. Challenge yourself with the knowledge of what you already own.
Mud Room or Laundry Room
- Wash your laundry only when you have full load. If possible, buy a latest start certified washing machine which can wash with cold water.
- If you live in sunny area, then you don’t have to dry your clothes fully in the dryer. You can use your backyard to dry your clothes.
Furnace and Hot Water Tank
- Replace the furnace filter as per the manufacturer’s recommendation.
- Ensure that your furnace is checked every year to verify there is no leak and all its’ parts are functioning well.
- Reduce your water tank temperature to warm.
- If you don’t have high efficiency furnace, then you should check with your local authority to see if there is any government incentive or tax benefits offered to replace the old furnace.

This is a very good post on how to save energy and money at home. As you said in the beginning of your post that most of these are well known but we all need to refresh our focus.
I have always been interested in renewable energy. Ths post has enlightened me with some new ideas. Id like to start saving money on my energy bills and I know many people are already doing it. I found this site, it seems
like a good way to start my own renewable energy system at home.
