Basics of a Winning Grant Proposal

Welcome back!

Winning Grant Proposal Tips

I always like to start any thing new keeping in mind what I want to achieve. I am sure you also want to do the same. So if you are writing a grant proposal to win that grant, you have to keep in mind that there are some must criteria for writing any winning grant proposal. Let’s look at some of those winning criteria together.

Winning Element#1

Always there has to be a cover page which should be written in a way that it gives the complete summary of your proposal in 1 or 2 pages. This should be a compelling sales letter without any hype.

Winning Element#2

This is the second most important element for winning grant proposal. This is the place where you give your reader more focussed grant proposal information.  This is called Proposal Summary. You should provide here information like what is the purpose of your project, how it will be implemented, who will be implementing it, what are the expected results, what are the benefits of this project and how it is funded.

Winning Element#3

This should be a Introduction page. Pretty obvious!

Winning Element#4

This is where you state the problem or need. You should use a funnel approach here which means that start with the bigger picture or generalized problem and narrow down to the specific problem.

Winning Element#5

Another very important element for your winning proposal. This is the place where you explain the project goals and objectives. The goals and objectives should be very clear. If these are vague and you are trying to cover everything, you may loose the focus and you may loose the attention of your readers.

Winning Element#6

Here you capture methods and schedule, which means that you provide how you will be achiving your goals and when you will be achieving your goals.

Winning Element#7

It’s time for evaluation and evaluation process. You need to explain what are your evaluation processes? How you will be evaluating if you are achiveing your goals or not? When you will be evaluating?

Winning Element#8

Now it’s time for talking about money. You should present here what is your budget, how much grant you are looking for, how money will be used, and how you will be reporting to granting agency if there is a reporting requirement.

When you write your grant proposal, you should always think from your grant funding agency’s pointe of view. You should present all the information what is needed from your grant reader’s perspective.

Wishing you all the best for your grant proposal
